P90x Workout
P90x is an intensive fitness program designed by Tony Horton. Tony Horton has been a personal fitness trainer for about 20 years. He has helped many people over the years, including many Hollywood celebrities and recording artists.
P90x is an advanced fitness routine that can transform your body to ripped in just 90 days. You will be doing different moves and routines every day. They call this “muscle confusion”. You will never get bored and your body will never plateau.
I am an avid health and fitness nut. I have been exercising regularly for many years. I usually alternate between Tae Bo, running, and the elliptical machine. I also lift weights a couple times a week. So, I am in decent shape, but I’ve never been super fit. I wanted to try something new and challenging that would get me to the “elusive” best shape of my life. So, I purchased P90x.
I am currently on my 8th week, and Oh My God!! This is an amazing system! Now, let me make it clear right now-this is NOT easy. This is also NOT for people who are just starting to exercise. You need to have at least some level of fitness. There is actually a fitness test that you are supposed to be able to do before you can start P90x.
I absolutely love it! It is like having your own personal trainer in your home. It is very challenging, but I enjoy it. There is a new workout every day, so I don’t get bored. I have no doubt that I will be in the best shape I have ever been in, when I have completed the 90 days.
If you are asking yourself, “Does P90x work?”. Yes, it does! Every day, I have been sorer than I have ever been in my life. And, it’s different muscles that are sore every day, because you are working different muscles every day. Now, into my eighth week, I have been less sore each time I do another workout. I started to notice body changes during my first week-more muscle definition and toning everywhere!
P90x Workout
What you do when you get the program is first decide if you want to do the P90x classic version, the doubles version, or the lean version. The classic version is the regular program. The doubles version is the classic with extra cardio workouts thrown in. So, you are really working out a couple times a day on some days. The lean version, has a little more cardio in it-this is the one I’m doing. When I am done with this 90 days, I am then going to do the classic version.
Anyways, you choose the version you want to start with, and the P90x fitness guide will tell you exactly what DVD’s you will be doing each day. There are a total of 12 P90x workout DVD’s. You will be doing a different one each day for 6 days, and then on the 7th day you either take a rest day or you can do the stretch DVD.
In the first phase, you do the same set of workouts for 3 weeks, then you’ll do a recovery set of workouts for week 4. Weeks 5-7 will be another different set of workouts, followed by yet another recovery set for week 8. Weeks 9 and 11 will be different, weeks 10 and 12 will be different, and then you’ll have 1 final week of recovery workouts.
All of the workouts are about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes long, with the exception of the ab workout DVD, which is only 15 minutes long.
The P90x system is a great blend of different super charged cardio workouts and “push yourself to the limit” strengthening workouts. No need to do anything else except this program!
P90x Equipment Needed
The things you will need beside the program are dumbbells ranging in weights (weight size depends on the individual), or resistance bands. You will need a mat (like a yoga mat) if you don’t have a carpeted floor to use. Some people use a mat, even if they have carpet-it’s up to you. You also need a bar that can be used for a variety of pull-up exercises. I bought the P90x chin-up bar that fits in your doorway. It is awesome and works great! You will need some yoga blocks. I first started without them, but if you are not very flexible, or if you are very flexible, then you will definitely want yoga blocks. Some other things that you may want are a heart rate monitor and push-up stands. The push-up stands will help eliminate wrist pain from push-ups.
Now, again, this system is the best I’ve ever come across, but it is hard, and will take determination and commitment to get through it. But, if you want to blast fat from your body, and get in the best shape ever, than P90x is for you.
